Dreamy Studio-Ghibli Inspired Cafe in Davao city – Cafe Cake Galerie

Do you ever find yourself wondering what it feels like to be part of the beautiful Ghibli world?

Fret not, as Cafe Cake Galerie of Davao offers their door to the world of Ghibli. Their cafe is highly inspired by Studio-Ghibli and adorned by memorabilia from movies like Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away and more.

Their small cafe will transport you to the Ghibli world and offer you drinks inspired from famous Ghibli characters like Howl, Totoro, Ponyo, and more. They also offer Ghibli inspired pastries like their Totoro cream puff.

It’s a cute cafe along Tulip Drive next to Miss Bridgette and Weatherbee. Their small cafe is definitely cute and cozy and is a place you’d definitely want to visit multiple times most especially if you are a big fan of Studio Ghibli.

How to Get There

Cafe Cake Galerie is located at Tulip Drive, Talomo in Davao City. It’s highly accessible if you are coming from SM Ecoland and would like to visit here. Just ride a tricycle to Tulip Drive and tell the rider to drop at Weatherbee.

They are open from Wednesday to Saturday 12:00 NN to 7:00PM.

Their payment method is Cash and GCash only.

The Place and The Ambiance

The moment you enter their cafe door, you get transported to a cozy and cute cafe that looks like those small cafes you see on your typical manga or anime show. Frankly, this reminds me of the store from the anime “Restaurant to Another World”.

It’s a cute Studio Ghibli themed cafe that can seat an estimate of 10-15 people at maximum capacity. It is a great place to hangout on it’s slow time as it is quiet and comfy. They have pretty decors from the Stubio Ghibli world. They also have a good playlist playing on the background while you lounge and enjoy their pastries and drinks.

It’s a comfortable hideout for people who enjoy being alone and read books. Their service crew is also very nice. The place is very calm and clean. There is also a sense that the place is very personal. It seems like the owner of the cafe extended their personality and passion to food and anime with the restaurant so it’s why it’s personally inviting and very homey.

The Spending

They only offer a few selection of food and more with coffee, beverage, pastry and sandwiches. It’s a small cafe that has a Studio-Ghibli inspired touch. The price range isn’t that expensive and good enough for a student’s budget. They offer their Studio-Ghibli drinks as low as P120. Their regular drinks can cost as low as P100. Their sandwiches cost around P200 to P240.

They also offer specials for the day that isn’t too costly. Their pastries only cost less than P200. Their Totoro puff only cost P100 and it was enough to be shared by two.

Review

I really appreciate how cozy and homey the place is. I can feel that this place is personally extended from the owner’s passion towards baking and anime. As an anime fan myself, it’s really refreshing to find a friendly and homey cafe in Davao City. It’s small, simple, clean and aesthetically calming.

I love how there are a lot of Studio-Ghibli merchandises, paintings and decors. The service crew were very friendly and had very bright and warm smiles as well. We also had the opportunity to meet a cutie. And yes, I am talking about a dog. We met Sunshine and it automatically brightened my day by +1000 happiness points.

The cafe also had a good selection of cafe music as they played a lot of Laufey, Mitski, and soft music. They also had a good selection of books that you can borrow and read to spend time with. They have a Studio-Ghibli My Neighbor Totoro picture book, Japanese Authors like Haruki Murakami and Kazuo Ishiguro, Stephen King and a lot more.

As to their food, it’s relatively priced fair and budget friendly. We ordered french toast with scrambled eggs and bacon, their Ghibli inspired drinks namely Ponyo and Howl, and their Totoro creampuff.

Their drinks are aesthetically pretty and delicious. I ordered Howl and the drink is as dreamy as Howl. It’s mango blue latte with salted strawberry cream. It’s a milk-based drink. The Ponyo drink is a kiwi lemonade with strawberry bits. It’s a soda-based drink.

The Totoro creampuff is delicious as well as it had cookies and cream filling. Their French toast is also delicious and very filling. They do make their own brioche bread. The bread is really soft and fluffy but not mushy.

I found that everyone during our visit had great smiles and enjoyed the vibe and food despite how small the cafe is. I’d definitely go back here to try their strawberry shortcake and their creme brulee cheesecake next. And, hopefully have a chance to pet Sunshine again.
