Craving for a stack of golden maple-drizzled waffles? Or maybe fancy a cozy cup of a maple-infused coffee? Then, Maplehouse is the place to be. It is one of the few that offers and celebrates authentic Canadian flavors in the city of Davao. Maplehouse Cafe opened their doors last 2024 and along with it opens a channel to discover the Great White North’s mapley flavors for the people of Davao.

Maplehouse cafe showcases the best of Canadian culinary traditions. From classic poutine with squeaky cheese curds and savory gravy to fluffy, freshly made waffles and pancakes served with Canadian sourced maple syrup, every dish is crafted with care and authenticity.
This a great addition to breakfast places you want to consider if you are craving for a heavy hitting plate with stacks of pancakes or waffles or if you just want a new coffee flavor to try. They also offer sandwiches, salads and soups, and pasta. Although, menu is limited, it is deliberately handpicked to offer Canadian goodness.

Food Review
When Maplehouse opened, I was really excited to visit the place as I really enjoy breakfast places and Canadian food in Davao is uncommon. Despite the polarizing reviews over social media, we tried and crafted our own review. We visited the restaurant last September 2024 so there might have been price changes or menu changes and there might have been some improvements, but this has been our experience at the time.

The Maplehouse Brunch – 6.8/10
To get a full experience, we tried their Maplehouse Brunch priced at P395. Honestly, we were a little disappointed. It is a generous plating with heavy pancake, French toast, sunny side up, pork and beans, grilled ham, sausages and freshly brewed coffee. It was not the quantity that was disappointing as it is actually really heavy and can be shared by 2-3 people. It is full of carbs and protein. However, it was the quality. The sausage and ham aren’t unique and at some point; while eating, I was thinking it would have been better to eat at home as it tastes of same quality as the products I usually buy at home. It would have been great if they sourced out a better product if it is store bought or some tweaking if it is their own recipe for their ham and sausages. The French Toast also lacks some flavors of sweetness and cinnamon. The bread is also a little dry for my liking.
Their pancake isn’t really something to look forward to but if there is any consolation to this dish, it is that their maple syrup is highly of great quality and authentic. It is so flavorful that it has a hint of spicy notes to it that elevates the sweetness. The saving grace also to this dish is their bacon. They have really great bacon but is of small portion size. The brewed coffee as well is really great. I don’t usually find cafes that serve good, brewed coffee but theirs is actually good.

Maple Bacon Cheddar Sandwich – 6.3/10
I am a fan of the bacon they used as it is really delicious and pairs really well to the maple syrup drizzled over the sandwich. They also grilled the bread, which was a plus however, it would be great if the bread for their sandwich was different. A good sandwich should start with a good selection of loaf bread, and I am not a big fan of the bread they used. I am also not a big fan of the tortilla or corn chips used as it has a cardboard aftertaste. This is priced at P195.

Canadian Poutine – 5.5/10
One of Canada’s dishes is their poutine. Fries covered in hot and flavorful gravy with cheese melting over the gravy. Their Canadian Poutine is priced at P225 which I feel was a little too pricey for a plate of fries. Their gravy isn’t also something unique. It is not bad nor good, just decent.

Chocolava Waffles – 7.5/10
We also tried their sweet waffles but had to take some at home as we were too full. However, their waffles have a good crisp texture and it was not overly sweet. It is great to pair with hot brewed coffee. The chocolate flavor was elevated with the sweet and spicy taste of their maple syrup. The maple syrup ratio against the waffle is not enough though. Their sweet delights taste better than the savory dishes we tried.

Grizzly Bear and Moose Track Coffee – 7.5/10
We also sampled their coffee drinks and their coffee concoction is on the sweeter side of things. If you dislike sweet coffee drinks and into the bolder, bitter ones, then this is not for you. Their Grizzly bear is too sweet with the caramel syrup overpowering the espresso.
The Moose Track is their coffee drink that has peanut butter in it. It has enough hints of peanut butter but still leaves the taste of espresso. It’s quite a delight but can find that not everyone would like this.

Overall, their coffee drink is good and will find myself going back just to have a taste of their coffee once in a while.
Restaurant Rating
Food:
I personally find that their food is not really something to look forward to. The idea is there but it still needs a lot of improvement. I think it would be great if they improve on the quality of the taste of their meats and source different brands to what they are currently using. The only thing worth noting is that their bacon and maple is great. There is a disbalance for other ingredients.
Value for money:
Based on the quality of the food, I don’t think you get what you paid for. The price does not commensurate with the quality and the dining experience flavor-wise. At a much lower price, you can find decent restaurant options that offers what they have. I won’t say better than them flavor-wise, but a better option pricewise. The only thing that makes them special for me is that they offer authentic maple syrup and good bacon flavor. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, too.
Location:
The place is really great and aesthetically beautiful. It is well-lit, clean, and spacious that can seat per my estimate – 30 people. Though, the only thing I noticed is it is a little bit difficult to navigate to.
Service:
On both times we tried to visit their place, almost everything on the menu was unavailable. It might be because they were generally new at the time, but it was a bit disappointing since they only have limited offering, and you are left with lesser option. Luckily, we did get to try their bestsellers. They also have a lot of staff but are not too attentive to their customers. We had to follow up our orders as they keep forgetting to serve some of the dishes. The brewed coffee was also served last if it weren’t for us asking so we ended up having to take out the coffee.
It was a little too awkward to eat as well as there were three to four staff stationed in front of us (we were seated in the front of the cashier/coffee area) and was looking at us as we ate. I mentioned this to a local forum, and they mentioned they had the same experience. It was a little anxiety inducing. Three to four idle staff, yet our orders were still delayed.
Hopefully, there are some improvements from the time we dined to now.

Variety:
Their menu is small and nothing that really stands out. It was nice to add Canadian cuisine but no dish that actually stands out.
