As a famous detective once said, “Chills! Literal Chills.”

That’s what my friends and I felt when we attended our first orchestra together. An orchestra made from the game we’ve loved all these years – Stardew Valley.

What is Stardew Valley?

Stardew Valley is a love letter to Harvest Moon fans, as it is heavily inspired by the Harvest Moon series. It was developed solely by ConcernedApe or Eric Barone. He built on a game that captures the essence of Harvest Moon but creates its own identity. It added layers of original characters and lore, quests, and dungeons that allow players to explore and fight off monsters.

Despite the game being released in 2016, players are continually receiving new game content to this day, free of charge. Over the years, there have been massive updates equivalent to other games’ downloadable content (DLC) but Eric Barone has provided them for free. It’s one of the many reasons why fans love Stardew Valley.

At its core, Stardew Valley is an advanced yet cosy farming game set in a pixel art style that requires you to rebuild the farm your grandpa bestows on you upon his death. It allows you to meet amazing characters with their own quirks and personalities, complete with a storyline and arcs. Game mechanics include fishing, farming, husbandry, pet management, foraging, and more.

You’d think, OK, but why would there be an orchestra for such a simple farming game?

But you see, Stardew Valley isn’t only well-loved by its unique farming mechanics. It is loved as a reflection of the love the developer gives to the game and its community. Eric Barone dedicated his time and effort to learning how to code, designing the characters and their lore, creating the art, and composing all the music.

Every season of the game has its own beautiful music to bop to. Unique cut scenes have their own soulful sound. Each character has their own music theme that fully encapsulates their unique identity. Enough that a whole album was created for this game.

The music was arranged by Chad Seiter and Thanapol Setabrahmana to be played by an orchestra. Due to its popularity, Stardew Valley Festival of Seasons tour was created, and the Philippines was luckily included in its 2026 tour dates.

It originally was a two-day concert held in The Theatre at Solaire in Manila last April 25 and 26, 2026, but they added matinee shows that started at 3PM. The ticket selling started back in 2025, and luckily enough, I got two tickets for the Gold seats, which were amazing.

If there’s one thing that sets the Stardew Valley community apart from other gaming communities, it’s its genuine sense of openness and belonging. Eric Barone has fostered a community where players can freely express their identities through the make-believe world of Stardew Valley. It’s a place where they can experiment with their sense of style, unleash their creativity, and build a life that offers peace, comfort, and happiness.

Beyond its beloved farming mechanics, Stardew Valley also shines as a cooperative experience. You and your friends can meet in the pixelated world of Pelican Town to cultivate thriving farms, tackle challenges together, or simply embrace the game’s lighter side and create a little chaos. Whether you’re working towards a shared goal or just enjoying each other’s company, the game captures the timeless feeling that home is where the heart is.

It’s heartwarming to see this beautiful community come to life beyond the screen. During the event at The Theatre at Solaire, everyone was incredibly kind, cheering one another on and complimenting each other’s outfits. It felt like a space where people could freely express themselves by bringing their favorite characters, seasons, and interpretations of Stardew Valley to life without fear of judgment.

For my part, I put together an outfit inspired by the fall season, drawing heavily from Doctor Harvey’s signature look. Harvey has been one of the characters I relate to the most because he seems to be the aloof and awkward type. His quiet and thoughtful nature reflects many of my own quirks and the calm, mellow side of my personality. Wearing an outfit inspired by him felt like a small way of celebrating a character who, in many ways, feels familiar.

THE ORCHESTRA EXPERIENCE!!!

Personally, I was hesitant to buy the ticket because it was my first time attending an orchestra, and I didn’t know what to expect. I was scared that 2 hours might be too much to spend on a gaming OST, and was scared it might bore me because it was a concert without any lyrics to sing along to.

BUT…. IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.

The moment Grandpa’s Theme began to play, with its soft, mellow piano melody soon joined by the gentle notes of the flute, I could already feel tears welling up in my eyes. By the time the orchestra settled into the piece, they were already streaming down my face. I wanted to stop it, but I could hear other people sobbing, so I let myself get carried away with the emotion.

It was one of the most soulful experiences I’ve ever had. Hearing a soundtrack that had accompanied countless quiet moments of my life performed live felt almost surreal.

I’ve spent hundreds of hours playing Stardew Valley across multiple platforms. Some of those hours were spent escaping the crushing weight of self-doubt and uncertainty about my career. Others were spent grieving the people I lost over time, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many more were shared with good friends and loved ones, building farms, making memories, and finding joy in the little things.

Through every one of those moments, the music was there. It was never demanding attention, but it has accompanied me quietly, weaving itself into the fabric of the experience. Listening to those familiar melodies performed by a live orchestra and experiencing it with the community who share the same feeling, and even more, brought all those memories rushing back at once. The emotions came in waves, and before I knew it, I was crying not out of sadness alone, but out of gratitude for everything those moments had meant to me.

At the end of the concert, I understood why some people would spend a ginormous amount of money just to experience live concerts, theatre, orchestra, and opera. There is a sense of emotion that it evokes in you as a human. It’s like a feeling of worship and togetherness.

I would definitely recommend an experience like this. If not for Stardew Valley, then for any game, anime, band, or movie you solely connect to. There is an otherworldly, soulful experience that gently keeps your heart lighter.
