For someone who enjoys taking photos of their meal, sharing food discoveries, and posting their personal review about the dining experience, finding the right phone to accompany every food trip is a must.
As a food blogger, one of the things I look for when choosing a phone is the phone’s camera capability. One that can capture the vibrant colors of a dish, the intricate details crafted by the chef, and the overall artistry and passion poured into every plate. A good photo helps in telling a story before a bite. After all, we eat with our eyes first.
But apart from the camera, there are a lot of things to consider when choosing a phone. Because a phone isn’t just for taking photos. It’s a tool that has become an extension of our everyday lives.
If you’re someone who’s been thinking about starting your own food blog or vlog, maybe this can help with your decision to find the right phone for you and see if the HONOR 600S is the right fit.

Personal Review
The Grip Test: Got One Hand on the Phone, One hand for the Brownies
When you’re a food blogger and dining alone, one of the biggest struggles is documenting your food adventure with one hand on your phone and the other holding a cup of coffee or a handful of brownies.
Personally, I find HONOR 600S a bit on the heavier side. Its weight is approximately 216.5g without any accessories or phone case. There was a bit of an adjustment on my part because the phone is heavier than the usual slice of brownie my hand is accustomed to holding!

Its height sits at 168.3mm, with a width of 78.54mm, and a depth of 8.33mm. Since I have smaller hands, I prefer my phones smaller and lighter. I found myself straining using it with one hand for extended periods. This can be a big consideration if you frequently dine out alone and need to take photos or record videos single-handedly.
The Screen Test: Can It Shine Bright like a Diamond?
When you’re dining out, sometimes your greatest enemy is the sun.
Being able to preview your shots and make good use of natural light is important, but not when sunlight itself becomes your enemy.
Thankfully, HONOR 600S is a convenient partner to me for outdoor use because I found its screen providing visibility under bright sunlight, especially since Davao is never short of sunny days. I also enjoy how it can automatically adapt its brightness to lighting conditions instead of having to manually update it on your own.
It also has an eye-care display that I find really cool, too. It has an eBook mode, which turns the entire display into greyscale. While it doesn’t replicate the look of a traditional e-ink reader, it is definitely an option that some people can choose. I could see the appeal for people who enjoy reading on their phones. It’s nice to know that this option is available. I can read the latest chapter of my favorite manga or read another page of my book using the HONOR 600S.

The Power Test: Will My Phone Die Before Dessert Arrives?
This is where the HONOR 600S shines!
I’ve used the HONOR 600S for an entire week purely for taking photos and videos, a couple of hours to scroll on social media, and playing Pokémon GO and Pokémon TCG. It’s surprising that given the mixed usage, it held up through all the activities I had in a day.
Of course, the battery life depends on the apps you use and how often, but it is still impressive how it held up over the weekend when I went around the city documenting for my food content.

For me, HONOR 600S’s strongest suit is its battery capacity. With its massive 8,100 mAh battery, I don’t have to worry about my phone dying.
Having HONOR 600S as your companion is especially great when you are travelling. Because we all know the struggle of running out of battery at the worst possible moment. Just when a beautifully crafted dessert or a dish everyone’s raving about arrives, you realize you’re the only one who has a dead phone.
Apart from its battery life, with the right and compatible charging equipment, it can support fast charging with its 45W SuperCharge.
The Camera Test: We Eat With Our Eyes First!
A good restaurant, they say, knows how to delight all the senses. The first thing a restaurant delights is our sense of sight. Before we even take our first bite, we already place judgment based on what we see. After all, we eat with our eyes first!
This is why, as a food blogger, one of the things I consider when choosing a phone is its camera. But when it comes to choosing a camera, megapixels aren’t the only thing I look at. For me, color rendering matters just as much. I want the photos to reflect the actual dish as closely as possible, without colors looking overly saturated or noticeably different from what I see in front of me.
Rear Camera
The HONOR 600S impresses me in this regard. Its 50-megapixel rear camera can capture good photos in both natural and low-light conditions. However, I noticed that color reproduction can vary depending on the lighting. In some situations, the colors appear a little muted. I also noticed that the textures in my photos can look different depending on the lighting conditions. Some details appear more defined in certain settings, while others can look softer. As a food blogger, these details matter when taking photos.

Camera Modes: Night Mode and PRO Mode
If I’m not satisfied with the picture, the HONOR 600S gives me different camera modes that can help bring out the photos I like. When shooting in low-light settings, its Night Mode can make a noticeable difference in brightness.

I also find the Professional Photo Mode useful. The manual focus (MF) gives me control over which part of the dish I want to highlight. This is especially important for food photography.

Front Camera
The front camera has a 5-megapixel resolution. While this is the feature I use the least, since I’m not really into vlogging, I find its performance decent enough for everyday needs. It’s passable for taking casual selfies and decent enough for basic video calls or an alternative if you don’t have a webcam for work calls.

The Vlog Test: Lights, Camera, Action
There’s a big difference between a blogger and a vlogger, and that difference affects what we look for in a phone camera. For example, a vlogger who makes video diaries and talks directly to the camera may focus on finding phones that have great or higher-quality front cameras, while those whose focus is on activity-based content may place more importance on video quality, stabilization, and zoom capacity.
For people like me whose content mainly consists of static photos, my priorities will differ from those who regularly shoot videos. Since I tend to create more photo-based content, I find the HONOR 600S a great companion for my food blogging. But each person has different priorities and use cases, so what works for me may not necessarily work for someone else.
If you’re planning to use the HONOR 600S for vlogging, here are a couple of things worth considering.
Zoom
The HONOR 600S offers up to 8x zoom, which can be helpful for content creators who need to capture subjects from a distance. However, this feature could also be a deciding factor depending on your content creation needs. For example, if you’re a birdwatching enthusiast who frequently videos birds from afar, you may want to consider whether the phone’s zoom capability meets your expectations before making a purchase.
Resolution
Another important factor to consider is the HONOR 600S’s video recording capabilities. Its video resolution options are limited to 1080p and 720p at 30 frames per second (fps), which may be a drawback for content creators who prioritize video quality.
Why does this matter? When uploading videos to social media platforms, compression can affect the final output, sometimes making the footage look less sharp than the original. Starting with higher-resolution footage can give creators more flexibility when editing and exporting their content. While 1080p is generally sufficient for everyday social media posts, those who want to record in 4K or use higher frame rates for smoother motion may find the HONOR 600S limiting for their needs.
Cool Features of HONOR 600S
AI Image to Video
AI Image to Video is a feature that lets users edit their photos and turn them into videos. I tried it with pictures of cute cats and transformed them into adorable little videos. Of course, the more creative you are, the more fun you can have experimenting with this feature on your phone.
As I’m not a big AI user, this feature isn’t really for me, but I can see its appeal for those who enjoy exploring AI-powered tools. However, there is a limit to the number of free edits you can make.
There are also predefined image settings, such as Magic Wardrobe, Birthday Greetings, and Pet Roleplay, which are handy for more frequent use. Magic Wardrobe, for example, lets you reimagine yourself in different outfit styles before actually ordering something online. There are freestyle options, too, for those who want to experiment with their creativity.
Built-in Video Editor and Collage Maker
Another option in your Gallery is the CREATE option, which houses the AI Image to Video and a built-in editor. You don’t necessarily need to install multiple editing apps, as the HONOR 600S already comes with its own tools for editing both photos and videos. You can even create collages before sharing them online.
There are also ready-made templates that you can customize by replacing the sample images and videos with your own, making it easier to create content for your social media posts.
Final Thoughts: Is the HONOR 600S a Good Companion for Food Bloggers?
After putting the HONOR 600S through my everyday routine as a food blogger, I found that choosing a phone isn’t just about latest features and getting the highest specification. I’m not a person who gets into the technical jargons but looks into how the device fits into my lifestyle, creative needs, and the kind of content I make.
For me HONOR 600S stands out with its impressive battery life, outdoor screen visibility, and camera features that allows me versatility with food photography. I appreciate how long I can go out and make contents without having to worry about my phone dying which is great when travelling or when covering events. I don’t also have to worry about lighting conditions because of its adaptive screen visibility. And lastly, solely for food photography, the HONOR 600S is sufficient to provide me good photos for my content.
However, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its limitations. It’s weight and size is a factor for me as I am used to lighter phones and the comfortability of holding it for extended periods of time. The video resolution and color grading may not fit for users who need sharper results at higher zoom levels or those who require advanced video specifications for their content. Users who tend to use the front camera more may put more importance on the megapixels of the front camera than the rear. Use cases are different for each person.
So, as a food blogger would I recommend HONOR 600S?
If you’re a food blogger, casual photographer or someone who just enjoys documenting everyday adventures through photos, the HONOR 600S is worth considering.

At the end of the day, the best phone isn’t necessarily the one that everyone else says is good for you. It’s the one that fits your lifestyle and helps you capture and share your experiences the way you want to. And while I can only share my perspective as a food blogger, I hope my honest experience with the HONOR 600S helps you decide whether it’s the right companion for your own creative journey!
